I have been reading a couple of conversations and thoughts about the architectural wonders of the US. Because we are such a young country some people were discussing if we had any architectural structures worth commenting on compared to other places like Europe, which is filled with awe inspiring buildings. I must say I do agree with most points stated. I do however believe that because we are living within this architectural age we may think the mundane as nothing worth speaking about. In the future people may be having a very similar conversation about their own buildings and comment on the wonders of the 20th and 21st century architecture. What I think the problem with our current architecture is that we figure out the most efficient and sturdy structure possible and skip the creativity. People today are so lost in money, practicality and trends that the wonder of adding art to any building is not an option. Those who try to add art to the structure are seen as gaudy or over done. Our own cynical one track minds do not see a new idea as art; we see a "classic" building from the age of dominant religious superiority as art. Everyone tries to imitate the classics so as to not be called a gaudy architect. Thus we do not have much progression along the lines of architectural art. I know I am starting to run around in circles with my thoughts but I just feel that modernism has all but killed creativity in the most pure sense.
