From where I left off, September 14 - 19

So starting from the first day I got to Macerata I have met a lot of awesome people. I have been able to connect with a lot of people from a lot of walks in life. I always seem to have something in common with someone. It has been nice. So far there is no one here I donàt get along with. The first 4 days I was here I had orientation. I didn't even move into my apartment till the afternoon of the third day (Friday, September 16.) I completely lucked out on my housing assignment. I have an apartment that is not very far from where my classes are held and just outside the city walls so I we have a very nice view of greenary outside our bedroom windows. There is a little fruit and vegitable store directly across the street from me so I can see myself buy fresh fruit everymorning before class. I only have one roommate and the apartment was originally for 3 people. We each have our own bedroom which is very nice. There are no dryers so we have to hang our clothes out to dry. We also have to be conscience of how much water we use and to turn off the lights every time we leave a room. This past weekend our toilet broke but it worked out fine because my roommate and I were not home very much on Sunday.
There was a football game (soccer in the states) played by the local semi-pro team. It was the best expeiernce of seeing a real Italian match. The players ended up getting into fights really early in the game so a couple of players got punched. It was raining all day so there was a lot of sliding around on the field even when they didn't mean to. I went with a decent sized group from the program and we were all clearly American so some of the local Italian boys thought it would be funny to shout at us and make obscene gestures. They were in a seperate part of the stadium so we were divided by a fence. Some of the people I was with were extremely offended to the point where they left. My roommate and I stayed. I didn't think anything of it because I knew I was safe and it was only a couple of guys who were being jerks. Some of the girls made a bigger deal out of it than it should have.
Already the group has scoped out quite a few bars. I like them all so far. Finding a place to drink is not an issue at all. Just about every place serves alcohol, it is more of an issue finding a place where people our age gather and socialize while drinking.
The weather started to cool off Saturday evening when it started to rain. We still went out but I ended up walking home in the rain. I also ended up staying relatively sober (compared to the people I was with) and so had to walk some people home. On sunday when we were going to the soccer game it was really windy and would rain on an off. It was extremely cold too. I was cold when getting ready for the day so decided to wear pants, a sweater and my winter coat which happened to have my gloves in it. I was still freezing my ass off at the game. Today has not been all that much better. The sun has been a little more visible so this afternoon I was able to walk around without my coat. Still had to put a sweater on though.
Today, Monday, I had my first class in Italian Language. I already have a ton of notecards to make. I really truly want to try and learn as much of the language as I can. I defiantely think learning it while living in the country will help me to learn things faster.
And this is the extent in a very abbreviated version, of my adventures in Italy. As more happens, I will post it.
Arrivedarci!
